How to Remove Black Mold From Non-Porous Materials

Removing black mold from non-porous materials can be tough. Non-porous items include anything made of metal, glass, and hard plastic for example. Getting black mold out of these areas can be very difficult unless you know the necessary steps to tackle mold removal in a safe way. There are some basic techniques to follow when removing mold from these surfaces. In order to get mold out of various surfaces, it is important to first obtain proper protective gear. You should check to make sure you have all the necessary protection before you start, such as goggles and a disposable outfit which you can wear during the cleaning. The first step is to wet the moldy area with water and soap spray. This stops the mold from continuing to spread through the air, which it will do if you do not spray it first. Then, you can use a vacuum to suck away remaining mold spores from the affected area and any surfaces close by which might also be affected by mold spores. Next, you want to be sure to rinse all areas where you have scrubbed. You can use a wet-dry vac if necessary if too much water has collected. You should then take some bleach and water and apply it to the surface where containing the black mold. Warning: do not mix bleach and ammonia! This can lead to a deadly combination of gases. Make sure you follow the instructions on your cleaning ingredients labels. You will probably have to leave the solution on the affected area for 6-8 hours or thereabouts. It should be able to dry on its own. You can also use fans, dehumidifiers, and any other type of air circulation device to let the area dry as quickly as possible. It is important to note, however, that it is very important to let the mold dry; otherwise, it will reproduce. Every mold spore must have a chance to be completely wiped out to prevent it from coming back at any further date. Once the entire contaminated area has been scrubbed away, it should be okay to start using the previously affected room again for any usual purposes. Ultimately, black mold removal must be done with care and caution. You must ensure that every surface which has been affected is thoroughly cleaned. If it is not, you run the risk of mold returning which can cause serious health problems, as mold is a deadly substance and can create huge issues for any house or building which is affected by it. Be sure to properly protect yourself when cleaning non-porous materials or any other household surfaces while you remove mold, both to prevent damage from the mold itself and from the chemicals you use to clean it away. This is very important to ensure good safety and preventative measures for mold removal and permanent care and treatment of the moldy spots.
